Biography

Sankeel J Chavan, 18, son of Dr. Jaiprakash Chavan and Dr. Shilpa Bansal Chavan a student of mechanical engineering at NMIMS University (Mumbai), who today wears a Golden striped 2nd Dan Black Belt, started his Taekwondo Championship career in 2012 by winning 1 silver medal and two bronze medals in the 1st and 2nd Interdozo Championship organised by Siddhakala Taekwondo Academy. He has won a Gold medal in U/16 poomsae competition and a Silver medal in U/16 Kyorugi (fight) competition at ‘The 9th World Taekwondo Culture Expo 2015’ held at Taekwondowon, Muju, South Korea from 11th to 14th July 2015. In February 2014 he had achieved 3 medals at The U.S World Open Taekwondo Championship- 1 Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals held at Portland, U.S.A. On 4th October 2017, he acquired the qualification of ‘Licensed Coach-Asian Taekwondo Union’ being the youngest among all participants at the 3rd ATU Coach license Course held in New Delhi. He attained the qualification of ‘National Referee-Taekwondo Federation of India’ on 16th October 2016.

Prior to that he had attained the qualification of ‘State Referee-Taekwondo Association of Maharashtra’ in October 2016 itself. He achieved one silver and two bronze medals at the 18th Senior Suburban Mumbai Kyorugi and poomsae District Taekwondo Championship 2017. In the 17th Senior Suburban Mumbai Taekwondo Championship 2016, he won 2 bronze medals and 1 silver medal. In The 16th Junior suburban Mumbai Taekwondo Championship organised by Taekwondo Association of India Suburban Sankeel won 2 bronze medals. At the 6th inter-dozo Taekwondo Championship held in December 2015 he won a silver and bronze medal. Completing a course of kummooyeh (Korean Sword and Archery) in March 2016 he headed for an advanced course in February 2017. For add ons he has also been a successful finisher at the Run India Run 5k Challenge (5kms) 2016 finishing the run amongst the top 10 participants.

Apart from his sports achievements and participation, in the professional and academic field Sankeel has worked as a vocational trainee mechanical engineer at TEAM engineers pvt. ltd. From 1st June to 15th July 2017 where his work and inquisitiveness to learn were far appreciated. He has achieved ‘The Bronze Standard of The International Award for young people (Duke of Edinburgh International Awards Association)’. Also holds distinction and merit certificates of Trinity College London for Speech and Drama and Communication skills. Sankeel has been honoured with, ‘The Young Achiever of The Year Award 2015-16’ by Rotary Club of Mumbai Parleshwar. He was a flight cadet in No. 1 Maharashtra Air squad NCC. He scored 91% in 10th ICSE March 2015 Exams, a member of The ‘Rotaract Club of Parleshwarites’, a member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology(London), served as the student representative of the class for 2 years in NMIMS, a student of the prestigious Jamnabai Narsee School, Sankeel Jaiprakash Chavan.

He was felicitated by Lions club, Rotary club and Janakalyan Sahakari Bank ltd. and IGP Pravin Salunkhe for his accomplishments.
