As a cricketer, Anil was known for his skill, consistency and fortitude and is one of only two bowlers in the sport to have bagged 10 wickets in a single innings. Anil’s leadership qualities, administrative excellence and corporate acumen have made him an astute entrepreneur.
In recognition of his contribution to cricket, Anil was appointed to the athlete’s commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in 2009. Over a year later, he was elected as the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association in a landslide victory. Apart from these, Anil has also been awarded the Padma Shri, India’s 4th highest civilian honor, in 2005 and the Arjuna Award in 1995.
Beyond sports, Anil is very passionate about photography and has captured candid moments with his camera over the past 20 years on and off the field. Some of his best works behind the lens can be seen in his book, Wide Angle. Anil is also very passionate about wildlife conservation and currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Karnataka State Board for Wildlife. He is on a crusade to encourage people to take a ‘JUMBO’ step towards protecting wildlife and nature through the non-profit KUMBLE FOUNDATION, and the associated JUMBO FUND.
